Trans Latina on New Season of Charmed

Trans Latina on New Season of Charmed

The popular show Charmed is welcoming a new bruja into their mystic universe.

The Venezuelan-Canadian actress Mareya Salazar is joining the cast of the CW’s reboot, and she will be giving life to Josefína, a second cousin of the Charmed Ones, the three main witches on the show. According to Deadline, the character is “a strong, opinionated young woman who shows up on their doorstep with surprises, secrets and has a mission of her own.” The role will be recurring.

Salazar isn’t the first trans actor to join the series. JJ Hawkins became the first trans actor to be on the reboot at the beginning of season three playing Kevin, a transgender college student.

As you can see, the reboot of the show is diverse in many accounts; the sisters are Latinas, played by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery. Also, Diaz’s character Mel is a lesbian, adding much needed LGBTQ+ representation to the series – and now with Hawkins and Salazar, the show gets even more diverse.

Thank you CW for being truly inclusive!
