This week on ‘Get it Girl!’ we talk toxic relationships & actress Shruthi Mathur visits our set

When we think about emotional abuse we tend to go to the obvious; someone who insults you, mistreats you in an obvious way, but sometimes emotional abuse is more subtle and it can take time to identify, especially when we are in love with the abuser.

Steph, Aliyah and Britni, talk about some of the red flags you don’t want to overlook in the newest episode of Get It Girl. Like playing games, being hot and cold, push and pull. That’s a big no-no. However, the more we are in these toxic relationships, the harder it is to recognize them and get out. The problem with difficult experiences from our past is that they can leave an impact on the way we perceive and react today.

If you’re struggling with emotional addictions, it’s important to know that recovery and healing is possible, and with it comes greater freedom, joy, and well-being. Here are four things you can start to implement

  1. Distance yourself from the abuser. Block his cell, delete him from your social media. or put a restraining order if necessary, but don’t let him close. You don’t want to be lured back.
  2. Surround yourself with “vitamin” people. People who spark joy in you and don’t drain you.
  3. Seek for professional counseling. Sometimes you need the perspective from a professional to get out of the hole.
  4. Go back to the things that you enjoyed doing and do more of that. The more you do that, the more you will come back to yourself.
