Three Must-Do Plans in Los Angeles Before August Ends

As summer days stretch lazily ahead, it’s time to make the most of August’s sun-soaked moments.

With its vibrant cultural scene and endless entertainment options, Los Angeles offers a trio of exciting plans catering to various interests. Here are three not-to-miss experiences before the month bids us adieu:

Playhouse West Film Festival: Celebrating Emerging Talent

For cinema enthusiasts and supporters of budding artists, the annual Playhouse West Film Festival is a must-attend event. Held at the iconic El Portal Theater in North Hollywood, this three-day extravaganza showcases the creativity and skill of Playhouse West students – both present and past.

Rooted in the Meisner acting technique, Playhouse West empowers its actors to craft their own narratives, making the festival a platform for their outstanding work.

Sponsored by the Playhouse West Arts Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to nurturing independent motion picture and theater artists, the festival offers a glimpse into the future of filmmaking. With its filmmaker-friendly atmosphere, organized screenings, and engaging Q&A sessions, this festival promises an immersive experience.

Among the featured films is “Feeling Vertigo,” a dark comedy that weaves together the lives of six intriguing individuals against the backdrop of a shocking beachside event.

LA Philharmonic’s Latinx Showcase: Music That Moves the Soul

Calling all music aficionados! The Hollywood Bowl and The Ford present a sensational lineup of Latinx shows this August.

Notably, CONTRA-TIEMPO‘s performance, titled “¡azúcar!,” delves deep into the intricate tapestry of Latinidad, confronting the unspoken anti-Blackness that often lurks beneath the surface. Through vibrant dance and exploration of cultural history, the show invites audiences to reflect on healing, identity, and the power of community.

Experience this powerful performance on August 18th at The Ford Theatre, where doors open at 6:30 PM, and the show commences at 8:00 PM.

World of Barbie: A Dreamland for All Ages

Step into a world of imagination and nostalgia at the World of Barbie in Santa Monica. This summer, Barbie takes center stage not only on the silver screen but also in a captivating real-life experience.

Discover the iconic Dreamhouse, hop aboard the stylish Camper Van, and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of everyone’s favorite doll. Located at 395 Santa Monica Place, this immersive exhibit invites visitors of all ages to relive cherished memories and create new ones.
