This Mexicana’s Folkloric Dress Made of Duck Tape Was a Contest Winner

Sometimes you just need to think out of the box to let amazing things happen. And that’s exactly what the contest “Stuck at Prom” scholarship contest is promoting.
The winner of this year, Larissa León, won $10,000 after designing an amazing quinceañera dress all made of Duck Tape!
Larissa has always been fascinated with designing and creating since the tender age of 5. In 2010 when duck tape started gaining popularity, she started making things out of it; toys, clothing, mermaid fins, hair accessories, wallets… So for her, this contest was a no brainer.
The inspiration of her design was the folklorico dresses that stem from both indigenous and Spanish practices, with ribbon, laces and flowers, honoring her roots and ancestors.
She used 47 rolls and it took her 163 hours. Larissa’s beautiful dress is a proof that perseverance and creativity can take you long ways. Felicidades, Larissa!
