‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Trailer

For the first time viewers were given a look at the new live-action “The Little Mermaid” starring Halle Bailey as Ariel. The release date of “The Little Mermaid” 2023 is May 26th, just in time to kick off the blockbuster summer.

The project which has been kept under strict wraps for quite a while has fans eagerly awaiting another Disney reboot classic. It’s one of the biggest fan favorite Disney titles, since the release of the Ultra Violet Black Scorpion series on Disney plus.

Black Little Mermaid Actress Drama 

Leading up to the trailer and release there was a lot of drama online by some ignorant fans who objected to Ariel being played by an actress who is black. They echoed many of the same problematic statements brought up by the likes of problematic The Seven on Netflix fans, and those who for some reason were very passionately against Idris Elba playing James Bond. I mean, chill.

If the trailer is any indication of the tone and setting of the movie, we’re really in for a spectacular Disney remake that could rival the beauty and the Beast and Snow White as the best live-action Disney remakes.

Halle Bailey Little Mermaid

In a statement to Deadline, the lead actress of The Little Mermaid had this to say:

“Being a little girl swimming in the pool, imagining I was a mermaid, I never imagined that would come to life [like this]. … The three days filming ‘Part of Your World’ was the most beautiful experience of my life — feeling all the feelings she feels, her passion, discomfort, everything she’s experiencing. It was so exciting for me to play those emotions and to have Rob directing me and being such a moving force on this film was really an honor.”
