The 2025 Emmy Nominations Are In and Severance Leads the Pack

The 2025 Emmy nominations are officially in, and this year has brought both surprising breakthroughs and some familiar faces back in the spotlight. Leading the pack is Apple TV+’s cerebral workplace dystopia, “Severance,” which returned to eligibility and was met with roaring acclaim, earning a total of 27 nominations, the most of any show this year.

Just behind it is HBO’s gritty Gotham-set drama “The Penguin” with 24 nods, showcasing a powerful turn from Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. Meanwhile, HBO’s mainstay “The White Lotus” and Apple TV+’s satirical look at Hollywood, “The Studio,” each tied with 23 nominations, underscoring the ongoing dominance of prestige television from these two platforms.

Comedy saw a fresh injection of energy this year. “The Studio” not only earned rave reviews but also tied the record for most nominations in a year for a comedy, a milestone set last year by FX’s “The Bear.” And speaking of FX, fan-favorite Harvey Guillén helped reveal this year’s nominees, bringing humor and heart to the live announcement from the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre.

One of the standout stories of the day: 15-year-old Owen Cooper, the breakout star of “Adolescence,” made history as the youngest nominee ever in the supporting actor category for a limited series or TV movie. The raw, coming-of-age Netflix hit earned a solid 13 nominations and captured the hearts of critics and fans alike.

There were plenty of notable first-time acting nominees too, including Harrison Ford for “Shrinking,” Kristen Bell and Adam Brody for “Nobody Wants This,” Ruth Negga and Jake Gyllenhaal for “Presumed Innocent,” Jenny Slate for “Dying for Sex,” and Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti for their riveting work in “The Penguin.”

In the limited series categories, Netflix’s “Black Mirror” proved it still has bite, pulling in 10 nominations. And Ryan Murphy’s latest true crime offering, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” made a strong showing with 11 nods.
