Meet Susana Plascencia, a leading Latina figure in the cannabis industry

We have an exciting new episode of Get It Girl! airing on LatiNation! This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Susana Plascencia, pioneering Latina in the cannabis industry. So get to know a little more about her before watching the interview!

Who is Susana Plascencia?

Susana Plascencia, known as Susie, is a dynamic Latina entrepreneur, speaker, and cannabis advocate. She’s the founder and CEO of NightShift Digital, a boutique brand-building agency that serves clients in tech, non-profit, wellness, and cannabis industries.

Susie’s journey is incredibly inspiring, and her efforts are significantly impacting an industry still battling stigma and stereotypes.

In 2020, Susie co-founded MOTA Glass, a brand that produces high-quality, American-made functional glass products. These products, handmade in Los Angeles with lab-grade materials, are sold online and in retail locations worldwide. Susie’s impact in the cannabis industry was recognized by Merry Jane Media, who named her a top “cannabis power player” that same year.

In late 2021, Susie’s company, NightShift Cannabis, partnered with a cultivator to launch a new cannabis brand in California. Thanks to her expertise in brand development, social media, marketing, and sales, the brand quickly rose to the top 50 in the state within its first year. This achievement speaks volumes about Susie’s talent and dedication.

In 2022, Marijuana Venture included Susie in their 40 Under 40 list, highlighting rising stars in the industry. She’s a proud Trojan and alumna of the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, where she holds a Master of Arts in Specialized Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations.

Susie is also passionate about Latina representation in the cannabis industry. She founded Latinas in Cannabis, an organization that empowers, celebrates, and connects Latina entrepreneurs, content creators, educators, and advocates in the cannabis space. Her work has gained international recognition and continues to inspire many.

During the interview, Susie shared her experiences and challenges as a Latina in the cannabis industry. She talked about the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself.

She says, “My marketing and PR expertise ended up exploding in a way that shocked me. And that’s when I learned that when you are authentic and you live in your truth, and you put your skills to work, that’s when magic happens. If you are not aligned, nothing’s gonna pop off for you.”

Susie also discussed the stigma surrounding cannabis consumption in the Latina community.

She recalled, “I was still a cannabis consumer at that time. Why? Because, as a Latina, we can’t be that kind of open with that stuff. The stigma is still alive, it’s still very strong. And being that I was going to USC on a scholarship, it was really important for me to break the stereotype for Latinas, so I thought ‘I cannot be open about my cannabis consumption, I have to keep that under wraps because I don’t want my colleagues, my bosses at the time, to think less of me’.”
