Steven Spielberg to Make Netflix Movies

Steven Spielberg is headed to streaming through a new partnership with Netflix. According to Indiewire in a statement to media Amblin Partners, Spielberg’s production studio, will team up with the streaming giant Netflix to produce projects including movies and series. Though he is involved as chairman of Amblin, there is no actual word on weather or not Spielberg himself will be at the helm directing anything for Netflix, if he isn’t there are great Latina rising directors including Gina Rodriguez who just released Awake this June 9th.
In the statement to the media Spielberg is quoted as saying,
“This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together with Ted, and I can’t wait to get started with him, Scott, and the entire Netflix team.”
The last time a project between the companies came to light was in 2019 when they collaborated on The Trial of the Chicago 7 which was directed by Aaron Sorkin. Though the film was ultimately sold for distribution to Netflix in 2020 it was not created as part of a partnership between the two companies.
The rumored first feature of the partnership could be Bradley Cooper’s take on Leanard Bernstein titled Maestro which is currently in the pre-production stages. This film will join other massive commercial hits such as Green Book and 1917 which faired incredibly well during awards season.
Streaming giants like Netflix, Prime Video and others are looking to continue to grow their partnerships with prominent film companies and personalities to be able to garner more legitimacy and awards for the newest way we all watch movies.
