For the First Time Ever, Two Spanish Albums Lead the Billboard 200

History has officially been made. For the first time in the 69-year history of the Billboard 200 chart, two Spanish-language albums have landed in the top two spots simultaneously. Bad Bunny and Fuerza Regida are now side by side at No. 1 and No. 2, marking a massive moment for Latin music.

Bad Bunny’s “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” had already seen huge success since its release, but the vinyl edition of the album dropped and pushed it back to the top, climbing from No. 7 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated May 17. Right behind him is Fuerza Regida with their latest album “111XPANTIA,” debuting at No. 2 and breaking records of their own.

This is the first time a Spanish-language album by a duo or group has ranked this high on the chart, and it also marks the highest debut ever for a regional Mexican album in Billboard 200 history. It’s also the biggest week in units for a regional Mexican album, and the biggest sales week in vinyl for a Latin album since Luminate began tracking back in 1991.

“Debí Tirar Más Fotos” earned 84,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending May 8, with 48,000 of those being pure album sales, nearly all of which came from the vinyl version. Meanwhile, “111XPANTIA” pulled in 76,000 units, with 39,000 in album sales. These numbers are historic across multiple categories.

Bad Bunny has now achieved his fourth total week at No. 1 with this project. Previously, the album spent three consecutive weeks leading the chart from January 25 to February 8. Selling 48,000 albums, it’s marked as the biggest week for a Latin album in nearly six years. The last time we saw numbers like this was back in June 2019, when Santana’s “Africa Speaks” debuted with 57,000 copies sold.

The vinyl release is also setting records. With 48,000 vinyl copies sold, it marks the biggest vinyl week for a Latin album in the modern era, surpassing Kali Uchis’ “Orquídeas,” which sold 20,000 in its debut just this past January. A limited edition double blue vinyl, available only through Bad Bunny’s official store, achieved this feat.

When it comes to Fuerza Regida, the group has set a new benchmark for regional Mexican music. “111XPANTIA” not only marks their best chart performance ever, but it now stands as the most successful debut for a regional Mexican project. It beats Peso Pluma’s “Génesis,” which debuted at No. 3 in 2023, and even surpasses the best week ever for a Latin group or duo, a title previously held by Santana.

The record-breaking doesn’t stop there. With 39,000 albums sold, Fuerza Regida now also holds the highest weekly sales for a regional Mexican album in modern history. That record had remained unchallenged since Selena’s “Amor Prohibido” sold 36,000 copies in May 1995, shortly after her tragic death

This just goes to show how the Latin music scene is growing, evolving, and redefining success. Two Spanish-language albums hitting the top of the most influential music chart in the U.S. is history in the making. And it’s all thanks to Bad Bunny and Fuerza Regida.
