Us women, are always on the go, constantly multitasking, taking care of others, being a boss lady, etc. But where is the ‘self-care’ on our agenda?
In honor of our well-deserved International Women’s day, we decided to do an article on self-care best practices to give you a little push to put some -ME- time on that busy agenda.
What is Self-Care?
Even though this is subjective for each of us, self-care refers to the intentional and proactive practice of taking care of oneself physically, emotionally, and mentally. This can include various activities such as exercise, mindfulness practices, spending time with loved ones, or even just taking a relaxing bath. Here are no rules but! (there’s always a but) you need to remember that self-care is not just a one-time activity but rather a consistent practice that should be prioritized regularly.
How to practice Self-Care?
If you are having trouble figuring out how to put this into practice, don’t worry, girl. I got you!
Self-care can be done in various ways, and finding out what works best for you is essential. The first step in practicing self-care is identifying what areas of your life need attention. This may involve reflecting on your physical and emotional needs, daily routines, and habits (I know, I know, you need to put some thought into this). Once you have identified areas of improvement, it is crucial to set aside time to focus on them.
7 tips for practicing self-care:
I can go around this subject for years and hit you with a thousand tips, but I don’t want to overwhelm you, so I wrote the seven most important tips (in my opinion) for self-love.
- Establish a Daily Routine: Developing a routine incorporating healthy habits such as exercise, meditation, and healthy eating can help promote overall well-being.
- Prioritize Rest: Rest is a crucial part of self-care. It is vital to get enough sleep each night and to take breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge. Sleeping is beauty 😉
- Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. If you don’t have experience with any of these, you can start with five minutes of guided meditation. I promise you will feel the difference!
- Connect with Others: Social media connections are not everything! There are multiple studies about how social media has a significant impact on our mental health. It is CRUCIAL to prioritize time for friends and family and seek support when needed.
- Set Boundaries: I know this may not apply to everyone, but it is such an important one. Learning to say no and setting boundaries can help reduce stress and promote a sense of control over one’s life. You can only live once, so don’t waste it doing what makes others happy.
- Engage in Self-Reflection: Self-reflection can help individuals gain a better understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This increased self-awareness can lead to a greater understanding of one’s strengths and weaknesses, allowing personal growth and development.
- Indulge in Simple Pleasures: Last but not least! Taking time to indulge in simple pleasures such as reading a book, taking a warm bath, or enjoying a favorite hobby can help promote happiness and relaxation.
