Return to Aztlán Amusement Park Being Constructed in Coachella

Return to Aztlán Amusement Park Being Constructed in Coachella

When you think of an amusement park, most people immediately think of Disneyland, Magic Mountain and Universal studios – the places that all have either crazy roller coasters or enchanting rides. How about an amusement park that has all the amazing rides AND some real culture. Well in the Coachella valley, home of the famous Coachella music festival, they are building something special…

Return to Aztlán is a multifaceted theme park based on the Mesoamercian empire. This is culturally significant because with our large Latino population, streets and cities named in Spanish, and literally being part of Mexico until 1848, California is one of the most Latino influenced places in the world. A mesoamerican theme park is just the right move.

So what is Return to Aztlán going to feature? They are going to have a 200 foot tall pyramid that is supposed to look like Templo Mayor, which was a lost temple of Mexico’s Tenochtitlan. How do you make that better? You add water slides going down from the top of the pyramid. You also get to see an amazing aerial view of the Coachella Valley by simply taking an all glass elevator to the observation deck.

Some more of the highlights are the Mesoamerican culture and art museum, Chinampia pond, wave pool & beach, racing courses, zip-lining, an interactive family water fountain and multiple water slides.

On the more interesting and educational side, they will have attractions that demonstrate the story of the Cahuila people, who are a Native-American tribe that has resided in the Coachella Valley for over 2,000 years.

Return to Aztlán is not alone; it’s actually part of the Aztlán entertainment district which spans 3 miles in length. The district will consist of Return to Aztlán, Championship Eagle Falls Golf Course, and two more Native American casinos being constructed. In short, this place is going to be popping off. This development will boost the local economy and bring a lot more tourism to the area. Furthermore, on weeks like Coachella festival, it gives the thousands of visitors an amazing area to enjoy before and after going out to rage.

This project has the financial support of the industrial and commercial bank of China, Native American Grants, and more. The property is also being used to film Montezuma Rising- Return of Aztlan. Furthermore, it supports the Native American economy because it’s being built on Tribal Trust Land owned by groups of the great Cahuilla Indian Tribe. Overall, Coachella Valley has given everyone another reason to go visit.
