Burned out? Here are Some Relaxing Ways to De-stress

This week was National Relaxation Day, celebrated annually on August 15th. This day encourages individuals to take a break from their busy lives and dedicate some time for self-care and relaxation.

The concept of National Relaxation Day can be traced back to 1985 when Sean Moeller, then only nine years old, realized the importance of taking time out for oneself and finding ways to reduce stress. Over the years, the idea has gained momentum in America, with more and more people recognizing the importance of relaxation, particularly in the context of mental health and stress management.

National Relaxation Day is a time dedicated to unwinding and taking a break from the stress of everyday life. It serves as a reminder for people to slow down and focus on their mental and emotional well-being. As stress and anxiety have become increasingly prevalent in today’s fast-paced world, National Relaxation Day offers an opportunity for people to prioritize their personal health and well-being.

Here are 10 ideas for plans to relax by yourself or with friends:

  1. Wine Tasting: Grab some friends and try different types of wine. You can also pair it with cheese and crackers to make it more enjoyable.
  2. Painting: Get a couple of canvases and paint and let your creativity flow. There are a number of tutorials on YouTube you can watch if you need some inspiration.
  3. Spa Day: Take a relaxing bath with some bath bombs or bubbles. Add a face mask, a foot soak, and a manicure/pedicure for some extra pampering.
  4. Meditation: Find a quiet place and meditate for a few minutes. Use an app like Headspace or Calm to help guide you.
  5. Reading: Pick up that book you’ve been wanting to read and immerse yourself in the story. You can also join a virtual book club to discuss it with others.
  6. Yoga: Doing some poses is a great way to stretch and relax your body. If you need guidance, you can follow a yoga video on YouTube.
  7. Take a hot shower: Light a couple of scented candles or hang lavender from your shower head for an added bit of aromatherapy.
  8. Listen to calming music: Put on your favorite relaxing playlist or listen to an album of nature sounds.
  9. Take a nap: Sometimes the best way to relax is to simply take a nap.
  10. Go for a walk in nature: Spending time in nature is a great way to de-stress.

And if you want to support other Latinas while you relax, here are some Latina-owned businesses that can improve your at-home experience:
