They’re back! RBD Just Announced the First Cities on Their Reunion Tour

Recently, Mexican pop band RBD announced they are reuniting and will kick off an international tour beginning in 2023. For those who may not remember, RBD emerged from the soap opera Rebelde, an adaptation of the Argentine soap opera Rebelde Way, airing from October 4th, 2004, to June 2nd, 2006.

The band is returning to the stage 18 years after the release of the television and musical project. “Soy Rebelde World Tour” is the name of the international show that will bring 5 of the 6 members back to the stage singing their greatest hits such as “Nuestro Amor,” “Sólo Quédate en Silencio,” and “Sálvame.”
Although the original characters of the tv series were rewritten for Mexican audiences, the plot in both versions remained the same. To help boost the show, which ran for three seasons, its producers came up with the idea of creating a musical group made up of some of its most popular characters. And thus, RBD, an abbreviation of ReBelDe, was born.
The musical project became a massive success, surpassing the popularity of the soap opera. The band began to perform live shows and toured nationally and internationally. Their first album, titled “Rebelde,” was released in 2004.

The main writers of this project were DJ Kafka and Max di Carlo. The first three singles, “Rebelde,” “Sólo quédate en silencio,” and “Sálvame” all hit number one in Mexico. The second single, “Un poco de tu amor,” was also successful, reaching number two in Mexico.
Later, in December 2005, RBD released a Portuguese version of their album, “Rebelde en Brasil,” with seven of the original 11 songs in Portuguese. The album ended up selling 250,000 copies. They also released the single “Fique em silêncio,” the Portuguese version of “Solo quédate en silencio.” They also released the albums Celestial and Nuestro Amor Rebelde.
In 2006 they continued to find success with their second album in Portuguese titled “Nosso Amor.” A few months later, they released their second live CD/DVD titled “Live In Hollywood,” which reached number 6 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums list and number 14 on the Mexican billboards.
When the soap opera “Rebelde” finished in June 2006, the group started working on both their first film and first album in English. That same year, they also got their first Latin Grammy Award nomination in the category Best Pop Group/Duo Album (they ended up losing to La Oreja de Van Gogh. In November, they released their third production entitled “Celestial.” The album managed to reach number 15 on the Billboard Top 200 and number one for nine consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top Latin Albums, selling 137,000 copies the first week in the United States.
In 2007 they released their third DVD, titled RBD Live In Rio, a live concert performed at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Shortly after that they released their fourth DVD, Tour Celestial 2007, filmed during a show in Spain in front of almost 40,000 fans.
In 2008, RBD released the album Best of. The band then announced that they had decided to split up and go down separate musical paths. However, before their definitive dissolution, the group released an album in 2009, “Para olvidarte de mí,” which was followed by a going away tour appropriately called “Tour del Adiós.”

Likewise, in 2023, 18 years after the first chapter of the series that gave rise to the band, RBD will launch an international tour called “Soy Rebelde World Tour,” which will perform in the US, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, and Costa Rica. However, fans will notice that the band is missing one of its members- Alfonso Herrera won’t be taking part in the show. There has reportedly been ongoing differences between Alfonso and the group.
