We are thrilled to bring you a brand-new episode of The Q Agenda. This time, we are venturing into an important topic: the objectification of sex in the queer community. We know it’s something many of us have encountered in one way or another. Joining us to shed some light on this topic are Luis Sandoval and Dr. Chris Donoghue!

The objectification of sex within the queer community needs to be talked about more often. Straight people are often curious about how queer folks have sex and what it entails. This curiosity, however, can sometimes lead to awkward and uncomfortable situations. So, how do we educate people about queer sex? What are the do’s and don’ts?

In this episode, Luis and Chris shared their insights and experiences. Luis, for example, talked about being a visible figure in the media after becoming the first out and proud radio host in Los Angeles. He also shared stories from his career, including reactions from celebrities like Salma Hayek, Leonardo DiCaprio, Awkwafina, and Jack Black after an interview of him went viral, and recalled the most memorable experiences in his 20-year career on radio and TV.

Luis Sandoval

Luis Raúl Sandoval Vallejo, born on October 20th, 1980 in Nayarit, Mexico, is a talented actor, reporter, and entertainer. He was the host of the TV show “Lánzate” on Telefutura and currently works as a reporter for the popular morning TV show ¡Despierta América! on Univision. Luis’ path into journalism started at age 17 when he left home to study communication at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). At 22, he moved to the United States, which is when his professional career took off.

Luis started as an assistant for the morning show “Piolín por la Mañana” and later became the star reporter for Despierta América in Los Angeles. One of his notable moments was in December 2013 when he interviewed Britney Spears; when asked about her favorite aspect of Latino culture, she replied that Latinos were “very sexy,” sparking quite a bit of online discussion.

On National Coming Out Day in 2018, Luis bravely came out as gay on ¡Despierta América!, opening up about his personal story to honor the memory of Jamel Myles. He would later go on to marry his husband Renato Pérez in June 2021. In our episode, Luis talks about his experiences being openly gay in the media, his viral interview moments, and his memorable 20-year career in radio and TV.

Dr. Chris Donoghue

Dr. Chris Donoghue is a therapist, lecturer, and educator specializing in human sexuality. He is the Director of Clinical Education for The Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) and hosts the nightly live-stream show “I’m Listening; Stay Connected” on Radio.com. Dr. Donoghue also hosts the iconic “Loveline” nightly radio show. He has written two books, “Rebel Love” and “Sex Outside the Lines: Authentic Sexuality in a Sexually Dysfunctional Culture,” and contributed to “The Sex Issue” and “The Mindful Masculinity Workbook.”

Chris is also known for his work as a co-host on the “Amber Rose Show with Dr. Chris” podcast and as a frequent expert on “The Doctors” TV show. He has been featured on The Today Show, VICE, CNN, HLN, OWN, Nightline, and more. Dr. Donoghue has given lectures at prestigious universities like USC, UCLA, and Princeton and spoken at many professional conferences.

As a Doctor of Clinical Sexology and Human Sexuality, Dr. Donoghue practices general psychology with a focus on individual and couples therapy. His expertise includes sexual and relational trauma, sexual compulsivity, body image issues, body positivity, gender, and non-traditional sexual identities and relationships. His inclusive practice supports all gender expressions, sexual orientations, and those involved in Kink/BDSM/Poly relationships.
