Pelé Documentary Hitting Netflix Soon

While the current state of sports continues to be a shell of its former self, fans are turning to old highlights and moments from their respective teams glory years as they scramble to fill the emotional void. TV ratings may be down, but sports documentaries are having a moment in the sun, none more obvious than 2020’s The Last Dance.
Netflix is at it again, this time covering perhaps the most iconic name in all of soccer history: Pelé.
The documentary sharing the football legend’s name will span his unparalleled and highly decorated career. Pelé’s achievements include winning 3 World Cups for Brazil (one as just a teenager) and, along with Maradona, being voted Player of the Century by FIFA.
From Netflix:
“This documentary feature tells the story of iconic footballer Pelé, his quest for perfection and the mythical status he attained. The story looks back at the extraordinary 12-year period in which Pelé, the only man to win three World Cup titles, went from superstar in 1958 to saviour in 1970; a radical yet turbulent era in Brazil’s history. As well as unprecedented interview access to Pelé, the film includes astounding archive footage and interviews with legendary former team-mates including Zagallo, Jairzinho and Rivellino. PELÉ is produced by Pitch Productions, directed by Ben Nicholas and David Tryhorn and executive produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald.”
You can stream the film starting February 23rd, 2021 only on Netflix.
