Oscars 2023: The Full List of Winners and Highlights from Hollywood’s Big Night

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” was undoubtedly the winner of the night. The movie arrived at the Oscars 2023 having become the most awarded film ever, and just surpassed that record after the event. The sci-fi movie, which tackles the dangers of the multiverse in a funny but emotional way, was nominated in 11 categories, and took home seven trophies.

Among the wins were the highly anticipated Best Picture, as well as Best Directing and Best Original Screenplay, both jobs done by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. Michelle Yeoh won her first ever Academy Award and also became the first Asian actress to win the Oscar for Best Actress.

Vietnamese Ke Huy Quan became the first asian actor to ever win the Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” while his co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis, took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy, in her first Academy Award nomination ever.

Brendan Fraser starred in one of the most emotional moments of the night, after receiving the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in “The Whale.” The actor, in what was his comeback on the big screen after several years in retirement, delivered a moving speech that caused a standing ovation from the attendees.

The other film that has stood out in terms of wins was “All Quiet on The Western Front.” The German film based on World War I won four trophies, including Best International Feature, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

Among the musical shows of the night, Lady Gaga performed “Hold My Hand,” her song from the “Top Gun: Maverick” soundtrack, while Rihanna came back to the Oscars stage and sang “Lift Me Up,” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” However, both lost against “Naatu Naatu” from the film “RRR.”

Latino winners, nominees and presenters

Jalisco-native director Guillermo del Toro took home the award for Best Animated Film thanks to his adaptation of the film “Pinocchio.” The movie is a reflection of his own interpretation of fatherhood, an adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s book and a long-cherished dream for him. It took a decade to achieve it. With the stop motion technique and his puppets, he captured each scene to tell his story. Del Toro now has three Academy awards in his repertoire.

South America’s representative in this year’s Oscars, “Argentina, 1985,” lost the prize in the Best International Feature Film category. The movie follows the real-life case of prosecutor Julio César Strassera and his team’s job in the famous Juicio a las Juntas, that installed a regime of State terrorism with thousands of disappeared and tortured during the last dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1983.

Its director, Santiago Mitre, its stars Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani, as well as producers Victoria Alonso and Axel Kuschevatzky, were all present in the awards show. The movie lost against the German “All Quiet On The Western Front.”

After walking the red carpet, she presented the Best Film Editing award. This year, Saldaña set an all-time record in her career in blockbuster production, having multiple films grossing over two billion dollars.
