5 Latina Miss Universe 2021 Contestants

This year’s Miss Universe will be taking place May 13th, 14th and the final competition will be on Sunday, May 16th in Hollywood, Florida. The Miss Universe organization did not host a competition last year, but let’s just say the crown goes to Selena for 2020. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi will pass the crown to the next Miss Universe this weekend.
The competition is taking place in Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The venue is shaped as an electronic guitar that lights up during the night. Puerto Rican artist Luis Fonsi will be performing on Sunday. Here are five Latinas who are proudly representing their country in the Miss Universe stage with confidence, grace and poise.
Andrea Meza is representing Mexico; she has a degree in Software Engineering known to be a male-dominated field. Meza is an ambassador of women’s rights; she strongly encourages women to fight for their rights. She has used her platform to work with “Municipal Institute” which helps prevent gender violence. The Mexican Queen was born and raised in the city of Chihuahua, she is vegan and loves to sing.
Kimberly Jimenez Rodriguez is representing the Dominican Republic; she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Forensic Sciences. She is also a model and actress. According to the Miss Universe organization, Rodriguez is “one of the five Afro-Latin women to be Miss Universe Dominican Republic.” The Dominican Queen is involved in helping an orphanage called “Ninos de Cristo” to encourage children to achieve their goals.
Laura Olascuaga is representing Colombia; she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. In order to communicate with her sister Yenifer she learned sign language. Olascuaga is currently working in Bolivar’s government in the communications department to help “the development of vulnerable communities.” Aside from Miss Universe, one of her career goals is to become a diplomat ambassador for Colombia.
Mariangel Villasmil Arteaga is representing Venezuela; she works with an organization called, NGO “Acción Solidaria” and advocates for the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Arteaga is a baker and is the CEO of a dessert shop called “Slainte Cakes.” The Venezuelan Queen began a campaign called, “Give a Sweet Smile” where she delivers birthday cakes to children’s hospitals and nursing homes. She also emphasizes on the importance of “SELF-LOVE.”
Estefania Soto Torres is representing Puerto Rico; Soto received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in different countries and career fields. Torres was recently diagnosed with Meniere’s disease, an inner ear disorder that leads to strong vertigo and hearing loss. The Puerto Rican Queen continues to pursue her goals with a strong and positive mindset. She has traveled the world living in 7 different countries in less than a decade. She hosts a weekly podcast called, “Voces de Reinas” known as “Queen Voices.”
Miss Universe has changed the lives of many women for decades. Former Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega spoke with LATV about how her life has been after her reign. She has received many opportunities. Each contestant has lead by example and have inspired women around the world to pursue their dreams.
