Michael B. Jordan Developing Black Superman Series for HBO Max

Michael B. Jordan’s Black Superman project could soon come to HBO Max according to an exclusive for Collider. Outlier Society, Michael B. Jordan’s production company is working on the script for the series according to sources close to the company. The series would center around Val-Zod and is currently being written and is different than the J.J. Abrams Black Superman movie which is in development by Warner Brother and Bad Robot which will be about Kal-El and Clark Kent. For that movie written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, it appears Bad Robot will be looking to hire a Black filmmaker as the director.

Though there seems to be a considerable overlap between the two projects, Michael B. Jordan in an interview said he would be “just watching on this one.” So, even though Michael may not be the Superman in the theatre release of the movie, we might get a chance to see him more regularly in an HBO Max series alongside hopefully some more Latinx shows currently in development by the HBO Max Latino talent incubator Palante

The Val-Zod storyline of Superman takes place on Earth 2 where, after the execution of his parents by the Kryptonian court, Val-Zod and his best friend Kara Zor-El manage to escape Krypton before its total destruction thanks to her parents. This makes Val-Zod the second to wear the Superman cape in the universe and take on the legacy of the man of steel. The Val-Zod storyline is less familiar to the mainstream and may offer a better opportunity to create the complex and more interesting storylines that streaming superhero series such as The Boys and Loki have gotten us used to. On the other hand, we can’t wait to see how Latinos expand their presence in the different superhero universes.

Michael B. Jordan is also currently preparing his directorial debut of  Creed III, and B. he is also developing a Static Shock movie with Warner Bros. and DC, which will be an animated feature.

Before we get into the different Superman series, HBO Max has a handful of exciting series coming to the platform this summer.
