Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Break Their Silence

Oprah says Meghan and Harry weren’t paid for the interview, while others are saying they (directly or indirectly) raked in over 7 million dollars – whatever the case may be, the former Royal couple broke their silence on Sunday night to give an exclusive CBS interview about their struggles in Buckingham Palace.

It’s no secret that Meghan Markle was not the British Royal Family’s favorite addition, often becoming the target of many British tabloids that  would constantly bring up her race and compare her to Kate Middleton. From absurd headlines like “Meghan Markle beloved avocado linked to human rights abuse and drought, millennial shame” or how “Meghan Markle’s wedding flowers might have put Princess Charlotte’s health at risk,” the British press demonized the American actress. Really, who in their right mind writes these kinds of articles? Or worse, who in their right mind actually believes them? Unfortunately, a lot of people do.

The couple opened up to Oprah on many subjects from how the Royals were worried about Archie’s skin tone, to the treatment they received by members of the Royal Family and the tabloids.

Harry started by saying that they had never planned to make the Netflix and Spotify deals, but the royal family “literally cut me off financially” in the first quarter of 2020. He said he thought his mother “saw it coming.”

“I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself. It’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we have each other,” Harry said.

As for the rest of his family, he said he has spoken more this year to his grandmother than he has “in many, many years” and they have a “really good relationship.”

There has been both criticism and praise for Meghan following the interview. Many people were shocked at her claims that she “didn’t know what she was getting into” by marrying into the Royal Family. And while it is incredibly inappropriate that members of the Royal Family were concerned with Archie’s skin tone, it is not at all surprising that the country responsible for colonialism in Africa took issue with a mixed race baby.
