Love, Victor’ Star Not Getting Much Love for Playing Gay

Love, Victor is the Hulu coming-of-age Latino LGBTQ+ romance. The show, which is in its second season, stars Michael Cimino who plays Victor, a teenager who is discovering his newfound sexuality.
However, the actor is facing some backlash for playing gay, both from homophobic people but also from the LGBTQ+ community for not being gay in real life. The actor has recently opened up about death threats he has been receiving from people on both sides.
Speaking to Attitude, Michael said that he is disappointed with the negative response that he has received, but that’s not going to make him quit. “I’ve had death threats, which is horrible. But the show is important to me. The messages of hate – I came into it knowing that would happen, regardless of how good I was.”
“It’s an honor to play Victor, and a big responsibility” Cimino added. “I went in with the pure intent to represent that correctly. I held myself to a really high standard to make sure everyone going through this story felt represented by the show.”
This raises an important and often controversial question – should straight actors play gay roles? Let us know what you think on Instagram @LATVNetwork.
