Top 5 Takeaways from ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 2

Top 5 Takeaways from ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 2

Piggybacking off the tremendous success of Love is Blind Season 1, the popular Netflix show, Love Is Blind is back and better than ever for a second season filled with drama, heartbreak, and… happy endings.

The show follows a cast of singles, 15 men and 15 women – all from the Chicago area on their quest for love. Unlike with traditional dating, the participants never see one another and are forced to interact in ‘pods,’ intimate spaces that are separated by a common wall but allow for the daters to communicate through a speaker in the room. From here, the singles quickly explore and familiarize themselves with potential matches in a speed-dating format before narrowing down which partners they would like to spend more time with, and eventually marry.

While not all the participants on the show are guaranteed to establish enduring connections, those who have wholeheartedly embraced the process and feel encouraged enough by their seemingly impenetrable foundation and newfound emotional bond, take the ultimate leap and propose to their partner without ever seeing them!

If, and only if, a proposal is accepted, the couples will finally be granted the opportunity to meet face-to-face and explore the depth of their physical compatibility. Immediately following their engagements, all of the newly established couples enjoy a honeymoon-like retreat, where they will work to further their connection with their partner and also have the opportunity to interact and meet other participants from the pods. But that’s not all – couples will experience an immersive trial period of marriage following the retreat: living together, meeting each other’s family and friends, and discussing the more serious, sensitive topics of integrating their lives such as finances and principals.

There is no question that the concept is both unique and entertaining – one that aims to first establish then build off a ‘blind’ emotional connection in theory, sounds ideal – but will it work? Will the couples ultimately find success? Here’s our top five takeaways from Love is Blind Season 2.

  1. Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee – SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
    • Despite knowing the premise of the show (to create and further emotional connections), Shake consistently lacked the maturity to act appropriately. He consistently made references to womens’ weights and to their physical appearance. Rather than asking questions with the intention of getting to know the other person’s personality, ‘Shake’ focused on surface level topics.

  1. Mallory Zapata – RESPECTING YOUR CHOICE
    • While there was clearly chemistry between Mallory and Jarrette in the pods, Mallory ultimately decided to pursue a relationship with Sal. However, during their trip to Mexico (where all couples were exposed and met each other in-person for the first time), Mallory and Jarrette’s conversation was filled with flirtatious innuendos – devastating Sal as he observed it all. Mallory made a commitment to Sal and it’s her responsibility to uphold that, even during tough situations.

  1. Shaina Hurley – RESPECTING THE CHOICE OF OTHERS
    • Due to their contrasting views surrounding religion, Shaina and Kyle were never destined to work out. That said, Shaina appeared reluctant to move on beyond the other potential connection that she had established with Shane in the pods. During a campfire reunion, Shaina went so far as to have a private conversation with Shane, forewarning and discounting his current relationship with Natalie.

  1. Nick Thompson – PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING
    • Shortly after the couple arrived in Mexico, Danielle suffered from multiple intense breakdowns – all stemming from past trauma that she had previously shared with Nick during their time in the pods together. Showing great maturity and empathy, Nick reacted calmly – comforting and supporting Danielle throughout the entirety of their time together. As the saying goes, “Understanding truly does give way to love”.
  1. Deepti Vempati – KNOWING YOUR WORTH
    • Deepti is intelligent, has a bubbly personality and an endlessly kind heart. Coming from a traditional Indian family, she showcased the ability to be open-minded and exploratory – in strong contrast to her family’s cultural norms. While she attempted to make her relationship work with “Shake”, in the end, she knew she wanted someone that would treat her like the queen is – and proudly walked away.
