EXCLUSIVE: HIV+ PERFORMER CARLOS MORENO SHARES HIS JOURNEY ON ‘LIVING Y READY’

For Carlos Moreno, a 31-year-old HIV+ performer from Tucson, AZ, being visible means representing. Now, living in LA working with the non-profit organization Wall Las Memorias and facilitating the group Poz Power, uses his pronouns, he and they, after coming out to his family, friends, and coworkers in May 2015 by telling his story onstage during a concert by the Reveille Men’s Chorus in his hometown.
Carlos shares the personal intimate story of his life growing up as a first generation American in Tucson, coming out to his Mexican family, and navigating life with a Poz diagnosis.
During this final episode of Living Y Ready airing on LATV’s The Q Agenda, Moreno opens the doors to his home for this special interview and takes you on a short journey to several meaningful places for him in Los Angeles, The Placita Olvera and Las Memorias AIDS Monument in Lincoln Park, the first AIDS monument in the nation created to memorialize people who have passed away from AIDS related complications.
Moreno, who serves LA’s youth to come together and talk about the different issues that HIV+ people deal with, also works in B3, an antistigma program that empowers youth living with HIV.
“Folks needed to see people like myself living well, working, and thriving with HIV, as well as contributing to the field of service delivery for marginalized populations. This was something that I struggled to see in the early years of my diagnosis.”
Latino Alternative Television’s (LATV) online series Living y Ready will end its season finale with a documentary-style episode, directed by Natalia Trejos-Herrera features, featuring Carlos Moreno’s inspiring story dealing with his struggles and how he worked to overcome and deal with his HIV diagnosis.
