Lil Nas X Teases Debut Album ‘Montreo’

Hold up, Lil’ Nas X has yet to debut an album? That’s all about to change very soon according to his youtube account where Lil Nas X release the trailer for Montero which will be the first album by the greatest country and rap artist. Infamously Lil Nas X’s mega-hit Old Town Road took him all the way up the country and pop charts (until it was controversially removed from the country charts) and earned the rapper a diamond certification by the RIAA.

By January of 2021, Old Town Road set the record as the highest certified song ever by the RIAA with 14 times platinum status in the United States. That’s right, the man who single-handedly redefined both Hip-hop and country music is statistically the greatest at both genres. Every night before going to be I kneel down and “Yass Queen” to the fact that the most decorated song in two of the most homophobic genres belongs to LGBTQ= icon, Lil Nas X.  Now, Lil Nas X is on a more liberated path. He’s not just comfortable in his own skin, he’s making relics of music’s heteronormative past uncomfortable in theirs.

From making out with a fellow dancer at the BET awards to twerking on the devil, Lil Nas X’s agenda lives up to the “unapologetic” label so callously thrown around by the industry’s safest bets. Now, with the announcement of Montero the album, we may get a glimpse of the full scope of Lil Nas X’s artistic prowess. The trailer heavily features moments from the music video for the single Montero, and it also has a Marvel appeal to it reminding us of his superhuman ability to conquer the charts.

While many of Lil Nas X’s LGBTQ+ predecessors also went through stages of their career where they hid parts of their identity, shrouded it in engima or simply refused to comment it, it’s refreshing that Lil Nas X chose to be more intentional and abrasive about being an LGBTQ+ artist.
