Jeff Bezos’ Latino Heritage
Jeff Bezos is the founder and CEO of Amazon.com. He is also the world’s third-wealthiest person, with a net worth of $114 billion. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bezos is of partial Portuguese and Jewish descent. However, Jeff is also a proud Latino, although not by blood, but by association.
His mother, Jacklyn Gise, was seventeen when she gave birth in her own home. Not much is known about his biological father, Theodore Jørgensen, a man of Danish descent, since they separated when Jeff was just one year old.
When he turned four, Jacklyn remarried, this time to Cuban immigrant Miguel Angel Bezos Pérez, born in Santiago de Cuba. This man came to the United States in 1961 at the age of 15, through the well-known Operation Pedro Pan, the largest exodus of children ever known in the Western Hemisphere.
After the marriage, Miguel adopted Jeff, which is how he received his Latino surname. The family would then move to Houston and eventually, Miami, where Bezos finished high school.
