The seventh month of the year has arrived and, with it, the birthdays of various celebrities of the Latin scene. Beyond personal beliefs and how each person decides to celebrate their new birth anniversary, or their zodiac sign season (if you believe in astrology) it is undoubtedly a time of celebration. Even more so, after two years in which the pandemic has generated a big blow.

Precisely for this reason, it is a good time to celebrate again since the health situation linked to COVID-19 is allowing it almost everywhere. In this context, it is also interesting to discover when was the first time in human history that someone decided that people´s birthdays should be a holiday.

The origin of the birthday party

According to most historians, we must go back to the year 3000 B.C. and place us in the time of the Egyptians, who were the forerunners of this tradition. Although originally what was celebrated was not each year of life but it was counted from the moment a pharaoh was crowned, later that changed to the celebration of the day of birth.

Likewise, other cultures and communities were adding the different customs that are currently used in most latitudes around the world. Based on the astrological character of the date, the ancient Greeks -for example- honored their gods by making them a type of dessert that had to be round like the moon, since the natural satellite had a great influence on their lives and that, they believed, would bring them good luck.

Years later, they added candles to this type of cake but, unlike how it is used in the XXI century, they did not have to blown them out. This was because according to what both the Greeks and the Babylonians believed, the longer those candles lasted, the more prosperity the person and the generations to come would have.

Ruben Blades celebrates his 74 years

His real name is Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna and he was born in Panama City on July 16, 1948. He is a singer-songwriter, musician, actor, lawyer, politician and activist. He has developed much of his artistic career in New York City. His most successful records were made with Willie Colon for the Fania record label during the salsa boom.

Very active, especially in his musical side, Blades recently participated with great success in the Cruïlla 2022 Festival that took place in Barcelona, Spain. There, in addition to the Panamanian singer-songwriter, was the multi-instrumentalist and producer Jack White and the British pop rock band Duran. Undoubtedly, Blades continues enjoying music and leaving his talent on stage.

Carlos Santana celebrates 75 years of life with music and solidarity

His real name is Carlos Humberto Santana Barragan. The artist was born in the city of Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico, on July 20, 1947. Although he is of Mexican origin, the guitarist is also nationalized in the United States.

In 1966 he founded the Santana band, a pioneer in fusing latin music with rock. The musician has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. So far, he has already won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards. He is married to Cindy Blackman, known for being the drummer of the singer Lenny Kravitz.

With this extensive career in the music field, Santana has a charitable profile that is always present. Nowadays, he is organizing a serie of concerts with the aim of raising funds for people that have real needs. “We want to help to feed people, to clothe people, to educate people and give them a better chance at life”, he said.

Romeo Santos celebrates his 41 with his three children

His name is Anthony Santos, he was born in the United States, precisely in the Bronx, New York, on July 21, 1981. He is known by his stage name, Romeo Santos, with which he became famous in the world of singing. He is considered in most of America as the King of Bachata, for being the leader, vocalist and main composer of the group Aventura.

As a member of Aventura, Santos has been a key figure in popularizing bachata internationally, taking songs to the top of the Billboard Latin charts and charts in Europe. After several albums with the group Aventura, Romeo announced his separation from the group to launch as a soloist in April 2011. He was born under the name of Elvis Crespo and that is how he is known. It was in New York, United States, on July 30, 1971. According to the story, his name was chosen in tribute of the singer Elvis Presley. Although he was born in The States, he was raised in the city of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, where he spent most of his childhood and adolescence.
