Diversity and inclusion in animated characters are of major importance as they reflect the world we live in and inspire a wide range of audiences. When people see themselves represented in these iconic characters, it sends a powerful message that they too can be the main character.

CyberPunk Edgerunner: David Martinez

In 2022 Netflix released a show based on the video game Cyberpunk. The protagonist of this show is David Martinez, a latino teenager, who was raised by a single mother and grew up in poverty. Following a series of unfortunate events, David gets a military grade cyberware installed in him that turns him into a badass, powerful cyborg mercenary called an Edgerunner. David Martinez showcases a life of fantasy and defiance. Before checking it out you should know this show is rated MA for mature audiences. 

Rick and Morty: Rick Sanchez

This might be surprising but the mad scientist who doesn’t fail to create hilarious problems and even funnier solutions to those problems is Latino. The show primarily focuses on science fiction adventures, humor, and complex character dynamics rather than exploring characters’ ethnic backgrounds. However, the creators have confirmed that Rick’s last name is Sanchez.
