Latino Actors Breaking Out on Netflix Movies and Series

Television has evolved into a whole new era in the way we watch with platforms dominating the entertainment spectrum, like our beloved Netflix. Since such a platform streams content made by Latinos and for Latinos, more and more are jumping on the wagon making us fall in love with their characters. Here are some of the personajes that have stolen the show and our hearts.

Latino actors and actresses from Netflix

Maritza Ramos in Orange is the New Black is played by Diane Guerrero, who brings a quick-witted, feisty and funny vibe to her character. Oh, and let’s remember that with the one-liners and witty comebacks were rehearsed by her on-screen bestie, Flaca, played by the latina actress Jackie Cruz.

Dascha Polanco has become one of the most famous latina actresses for her character “Daya” Díaz in OITNB. Dayanara “Daya” Diaz is currently in Maximum Security, along with her mom, current inmate Aleida Diaz. Polanco was born in the Dominican Republic, but at a young age she emigrated with her family to the United States, settling in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. She definitely brings New York to her character.

Jaime Camil is a latino actor who plays lover boy Rogelio de la Vega in Jane the Virgin. Rogelio would do anything for the people he loves, although sometimes he comes off as a bit narcissistic. He became part of the Villanueva family after finding out that he has a son. But never putting his dreams aside of continuing to be a Hollywood star and becoming a writer.

Don’t be fooled by Gregory Diaz IV’s age, this young Puerto Rican descendant actor has a lot of experience under his belt. Just ask your family who Quentin in the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is or check his recent performance in ‘In the Heights’.

Julissa Calderón plays Yessika Flores in Gentefied. Her role was created with an Afro-Latina actress in mind. Looks like the creators of the show found their match! Yessika is a fun-spunky character who loves her girlfriend.

Jasmine On My Block (Netflix) is another character who carried the show on her back and it was played by the young latina actress and Florida native ,Jess Marie García.
