The Acting Career of Latina Actress Aubrey Plaza

Actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza is experiencing an extraordinary moment in her professional career, being recently nominated to the Golden Globes. She became famous for her role as April Ludgate on the comedy series Parks and Recreation and has appeared in many movies and series, including the film “Megalopolis,” which will hit theatres in 2024.

Aubrey was born in Wilmington, Delaware, United States, on June 26th, 1984, the daughter of David Plaza, a tax consultant of Puerto Rican descent, and Bernadette Plaza, a lawyer. She has two younger sisters named Renee and Natalie.

She was named after the song “Aubrey” by the American rock band Bread. The actress studied at a college in her hometown of Wilmington before graduating in Film at Tisch in New York. She then studied theater and also did stand up comedy.

Starting in 2006, she began to appear in short films. That same year she also appeared in an episode of the series Rockefeller Plaza. A year later and until 2008, she participated in The Jeannie Tate Show, a series broadcasted on the Internet. In 2009 she premiered in the comedies Mayne Street and Make Me Laugh, a film starring Adam Sandler.

Also in 2009, she got to play the role of April Ludgate in the series Parks And Recreation, which ended in 2015.

Later, she worked on “Scott Pilgrim Against the World,” a 2010 film directed by Edgar Wright. Plaza then had performances in the series Troopers (2011) and Portlandia (2011-2012) and in the film Security Not Guaranteed (2012) with Mark Duplass.

Aubrey also appeared in the video clip for the song “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” by Father John Misty. In 2014, she took part in episodes of the television series Drunk History and in the films Amor Zombie, Ned Rifle, Déjate Querer, and Dirty Grandpa, which was released in 2016 and starred Robert de Niro, Zac Efron, and Zoey Deutsch.

Aubrey’s career continued to rise, and in 2016 she was in the series Criminal Minds and the comedy Mike and Dave Looking for a Serious Roll. Then, from 2017 to 2019, she worked on the Marvel television series Legion as Lenny Busker. Meanwhile, she also had roles in the films “Ingrid Goes West” and “En Pecado.”

During the following year, Aubrey and her husband, Jeff Baena, have worked on several films: “The Little Hours,” “Zombie Love,” “Joshy,” and “Spin Me Round.” She has also voiced several animated characters in the remake of Muñeco Diabólico. And during the pandemic, she  was part of The Happiness Station, a film written and directed by Clea DuVall, and she shared the lead with Michael Caine in the movie “Best Sellers.” 

In 2022 she starred in and produced the crime story “Emily The Hustler,” and joined the television series The White Lotus as lawyer Harper Spiller, wife of the character played by Will Sharpe. She also starred in “Operation Fortune: The Great Hoax,” directed by Guy Ritchie. Currently, Aubrey is working on the movie “Megalopolis” and on the TV series Olga Dies Dreaming and Agatha: Aquelarre Del Caos.
