Taste Testing Latin America’s Favorite Sodas

Latin America’s distinct flavors are reflected in the wide array of sodas that many people enjoy. For those Latinos abroad, these nostalgic drinks can be hard to come by in the United States.
LATV’s Cultura Shock decided to try a variety of soft drinks from the Latin world to get a perspective of the sugar-filled spectrum of beverages outside of North America. The sodas we tested include:
Guaraná Antartica
Country: Brazil
Flavor: Made with extract from the caffeinated climbing plant native to the Amazon, ‘Guaraná Antartica’ is has a light and crisp apple-like flavor.
Inca Kola
Country: Peru
Flavor: Also referred to as The Golden Kola, ‘Inca Kola’ has intensely sweet citrus flavors with hints of cream soda and bubblegum.
Postobón
Country: Colombia
Flavor: The namesake soft drink from the largest beverage company in Colombia. We tried the popular ‘Manzana (apple) Postobón’ but other flavor include pineapple, lemon, etc.
Ironbeer
Country: Cuba
Flavor: You won’t find any alcohol in this Cuban soda. Founded in 1917, the carmel-colored ‘Ironbeer’ is described as a mix between root beer and cream soda.
Materva
Country: Cuba
Flavor: Made from Yerba Mate, the taste of caffeine stands out in ‘Materva’. It’s like drinking a Red Bull with ginger ale.
Frescolita
Country: Venezuela
Flavor: The Venezuelan flag covers Frescolita’s uniquely tall can, which has your familiar strawberry-like candy flavor.
See how our guests enjoyed each soda in the video above and try them out for yourself!
