Las Cafeteras “La Sirena” is our Queer Latinx Summer Banger

June is more than Pride month, it’s also Immigrant Heritage month and Las Cafeteras have released their latest music video for the song “La Sirena” which is the definitive Latinx jam of the summer. Our friends, community leaders and activists Poder Latinx hooked up Las Cafeteras with Human Rights Campaign to give us a spectacular drag-infused anthem to dance to.

The East LA based bad chose our LATV Studios, home to The Q Agenda to shoot their new music video that comes with more than a message of inclusion, it comes with a mission. On the official announcement for the video on the Poder Latinx website, the song is described as,

…a celebration of the art, identity, and collective power of the LGBTQIA+ movement. The goal of this project is to empower LGBTQIA+ people and immigrants to register to vote and participate in municipal, state, and federal elections. The music video was released on June 16, 2021.”

Alphonso David of the Human Rights Campaign also shares his enthusiasm for the project

“These types of cross-movement collaborations are an essential strategy to achieve liberation for all marginalized communities. When we unite across our respective battles, and use an intersectional lens to develop the strategies that we use to achieve our missions, we become smarter and more powerful than our common threats. We need more artists like Las Cafeteras to create the anthems that will increase visibility of marginalized voices, and inspire us to unite and take action to make a better, more inclusive nation,” David added.

“La Sirena” is an original song written by creative powerhouse Hector Flores of Las Cafeteras.

Las Cafeteras are no strangers to leveraging the power of music and art for social change having released a special cover of “Georgia on my Mind” to encourage voter turnout in the Georgia runoff election for United States Senate in 2021.
