Kiké Hernández Returns to Chavez Ravine for Playoff Push

Enrique “Kiké” Hernández is back in Dodger blue after the team made a deal to bring him back for a playoff push.

The 2023 MLB trade deadline has ended and one move made by the Dodgers has the fans ecstatic. Kiké Hernández was brought back last week in a trade with the Boston Red Sox. Los Angeles sent pitchers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman to require the 31-year-old.

Hernández, a major contributor in the Dodgers 2020 championship season looks to help the team reach that accomplishment once again. Despite having a batting average of .222, and an on-base percentage of .279, the Dodgers front office felt Hernández is the spark that can help the club win a championship.

Hernández a Puerto Rico native was excited to be back in Los Angeles after his two-year stint with Boston. Prior to Boston, Hernández played seven seasons with the Dodgers from 2015-2020. The change back to the West Coast can help the nine year veteran get back to his 202o form.

Hernández made his debut for Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, July 26th against the Toronto Blue Jays. Hernández was inserted into the starting lineup batting sixth and playing at second base. The right hander went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of base hits. Despite a nice performance from Hernández, Los Angeles got outplayed losing 8-1.

In his first week back with Dodgers, Hernández is batting with a .333 average and playing multiple positions. Hernández looks to fill his role he left vacant back in  2020 as the Dodgers super utility player.

With a 59-45 record on the season the Dodgers are currently in first place in the NL West with a 2.5 game lead over their division rivals.
