Mexican-Born Latina Engineer, Kat Echazarreta, Makes Space History

Katya”Kat” Echazarreta is one Latina in STEM elevating our culture. If you’ve been keeping up with positive news these days, I’m sure you’ve seen Kat and her family as they celebrate she will be the first Mexican-born Latina to travel to space, and the youngest woman in all of the U.S. to leave Earth.
Who is Katya “Kat” Echazarreta?
Kat had big dreams since she was a little girl, she became an engineer and started sharing her interest in physics and astronomy that led her to get a degree in Electrical Engineering.
She will be joining the 5th Blue Origin trip thanks to Space for Humanity, being the first Mexican to travel to space through the “Citizen astronaut program.”
“I am honored to represent not only Space for Humanity in this mission, but also all the girls and women who dream of achieving something bigger, those who maybe just need an extra push or an example from someone. that looks or sounds like them to encourage you to take the next step towards your dream,” she has expressed in her social media.
Born in Mexico, specifically in Guadalajara, Jalisco, currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
