Kamala Harris to be Sworn in by Sonia Sotomayor

The Latinx presence will be felt at this year’s inauguration! We have J Lo performing AND VP Kamala Harris will be sworn in by Sonia Sotomayor, the Bronx-born Puerto Rican Supreme Court justice. Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and the third woman to serve on the High Court. It’s said that Harris personally chose Sotomayor for this task because they both represent “firsts.”

The two women have a few things in common, including experience as prosecutors as well as their admiration for Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice. Harris will be using 2 bibles, one of which belonged to Marshall, and the second bible will be one of a family friend who Harris grew up with and considers to be like a second mother.

This isn’t Sonia’s first time doing this. She actually swore in President-elect Joe Biden as vice president in 2013.

So let’s get this straight, the first ever female Black-Asian Vice-President will be sworn in by the first ever Latina justice. That’s pretty dope! Now this is the type of history we want to be apart of – 2021 is looking up!
