Kamala Harris May Become the First Minority Woman to Run for President Following Biden’s Withdrawal

President Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from the presidential race for the next term, dramatically reshaping the political landscape.

Through his social platforms, Biden announced that he will no longer seek reelection for a second term in office.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

He later endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as an ideal Democratic candidate.

In an unexpected turn of events, with Biden’s endorsement, Vice President Kamala Harris swiftly stepped into the spotlight as the leading Democratic candidate, igniting a surge of support from party members.

In just one afternoon, Harris’s campaign has amassed an impressive $49.6 million through enthusiastic donations from supporters.

Harris is determined to seize the nomination, stating, “My intention is to win this nomination.”

While former President Barack Obama praised Biden as a “patriot,” neither Obama nor former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have yet voiced their support for Harris.

On the Republican side, Donald Trump has criticized Biden’s ability to continue, claiming the 81-year-old president was unfit to run. The election is now set against a backdrop of uncertainty and heightened stakes.

What’s next?

The Democratic National Convention, where the presidential and vice-presidential candidates will be chosen, will take place from August 19 to 22.

The presidential election will be held on November 5, so show up to the polls and cast your vote!
