Is This The End of The Golden Globes?

Hopefully not! The HFPA has definitely seen better times – especially after Tom Cruise returned his 3 Golden Globes as a protest against lack of diversity. The trophies that were just sent back to HFPA headquarters are the Best Actor prize he won for Jerry Maguire, the Best Actor prize he won for Born on the Fourth of July, and the Best Supporting Actor prize he won for Magnolia.
Shortly after, NBC announced that they will be canceling the Golden Globes next year which makes the HFPA an endangered species since they won’t be seeing any of the $60 million that the network pays them.
“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right,” the network said in a statement, hinting that a 2023 show is possible if the HFPA “executes on its plan” of reforms.
As a big fan of the Golden Globes, I hope they can work it out, because what would award season be without them?
