Inside Sofia Vergara’s Animated Series Koatí

Families around the world are about to meet a new group of rainforest friends in Koatí, a vibrant 2D animated series produced by and starring Emmy-nominated actress Sofía Vergara (Griselda, Modern Family). Based on the 2021 feature film of the same name, the 13-episode series has been acquired by Netflix and will debut globally on November 13, streaming in both English and Spanish across the U.S., Canada, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Set in the lush and colorful Land of Xo, which is inspired by real Latin American landscapes, Koatí follows four unlikely heroes: Nachi, a free-spirited coati; Xochi, a fearless monarch butterfly; Pako, a fun-loving glass frog; and Xuxu, a clever and magical axolotl. Together, they embark on joyful adventures that celebrate friendship, nature, and Latin culture while teaching kids valuable lessons about kindness, curiosity, and emotional intelligence.

As co-creator, executive producer, and voice actor, Sofía Vergara calls Koatí “a beautiful gift from Latin America to families around the world.” The project, which she has nurtured for over a decade, is rooted in her desire to share the richness of Latin American nature, music, and values with younger audiences. “Koatí is the first 100% Latin animated series that celebrates nature with an educational heart and plenty of comedy to entertain families everywhere,” Vergara has said.

The voice cast features Vergara as the sassy and wise snake Zaina, alongside Adriana Barraza as Amaya, Mexican author Regina Carrotas María, voice actors Luis Carreño as Whiskers, Cocopa and Lady Bug and Emilio Treviño as Pako. Many social media stars join Koatí such as Xime Ponch as Camilla, Mario Ruiz as Emilio, Sebas Villalobos as Calli and Callé and Poché as Bella and Barbie.

The cast is completed by rising kid actors Juan Pablo Monterrubio as Nachi, Habana Zoé López as Xochi, Andrea Valentina Cabrera as Xuxu, Salomé Rodríguez Ospina as Mussi, Roberto Ochoa as Gugu, Carlota Ochoa as Pakita and Emilia Isobel Herrera as Luna.

Finally, Vergara’s son, Manolo González Vergara, also joins the cast as Serafín and Andi.

“At first, it was a movie, and now it’s a more kid-friendly show for younger audiences,” Manolo shared with Hola!. “We’ve been developing this project for almost 10 years. I had a blast doing the voices… they asked me if I wanted to be part of it, and I said, ‘Of course! Whatever you need.’”

Behind the scenes, the show reunites a talented creative team led by showrunner Anabella Sosa-Dovarganes, writer Melissa de Assis Escobar, and co-writer Federico Marcello, with direction by Sergio Slepczuk and Fernando Sawa. Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello (Magnus Studios) brings the series’ vibrant musical world to life. Produced by Upstairs Miami and Vergara’s own Latin World Entertainment (LatinWE), Koatí originated as a ViX Original before landing on Netflix.

Beyond the stunning animation and musical energy, Koatí carries a deeper purpose: to teach children meaningful lessons about bravery, teamwork, and caring for nature. Each episode offers its own moral, showing young viewers how to face fears, embrace community, and appreciate the environment.

For Vergara, Koatí is much more than a show: it’s a decade-long dream come true. With its mix of music, humor, and heart, she hopes the series will inspire pride in Latin American culture while entertaining families worldwide.
