Venezuelan Illustrator Oscar Bastidas on Coming Full Circle with his Latest Project

Oscar Bastidas, a distinguished illustrator from Venezuela, has come full circle on his immigrant journey.
He recently returned to McDonald’s, where he worked when he was a High School student, to infuse a new generation with the same nostalgic joy he once experienced from McDonald’s toys. His latest project, the Collector’s Meal collectible cups, celebrates some of the most memorable keepsakes and collaborations that the brand has featured over the years.
Oscar’s journey with McDonald’s began in his native Venezuela, where he saw first-hand the excitement and happiness that McDonald’s collectibles brought to fans. Now, as a celebrated illustrator, he’s bringing it all together, merging his early experiences with his artistic talent to create a new set of collectible cups that are bound to delight both long-time fans and newcomers.

“The beautiful thing about illustration is you can create something from scratch. You are shaping something from nothing. At the end when you get to see all of your work and people are enjoying that narrative, for me that’s priceless.” – Oscar Bastidas
A Collector’s Dream
The Collector’s Meal includes six iconic collectible cups, each representing a beloved McDonald’s collaboration. Oscar designed three of these cups, featuring themes that include Barbie & Hot Wheels, Beanie Babies, and McDonald’s itself. Other cups in the collection celebrate collaborations with Shrek, Jurassic Park & Minions, Hello Kitty & Peanuts, and Coca-Cola.
Each meal comes with one of these collectible cups, available all day long, so fans have ample opportunity to add to their collection at their leisure.
