I Care A Lot’ Film Review | Latin Tomates

Netflix recently launched I Care A Lot, a dark comedy-thriller about a morally questionable legal guardian, Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike) and her business partner and lover Fran (Eiza González) who drain the savings of her elderly wards. It’s a well-oiled machine until the two con artists meet their match when a woman Marla tries to swindle turns out to be much more than she initially appears to be…

The movie, written and directed by J. Blakeson is a smart thriller about predators and prey, and what happens when you mistake one for the other. The title, I Care a Lot, is very well chosen – because Marla does care a lot. For herself. And that’s about it. Unfortunately, that attitude comes with a price called “karma.”

Check out our Latin Tomates review below:

-40% femme fatales in action. It’s not the first time Pike has played an evil woman (let’s not forget “Gone Girl“) but she is especially unlikeable here. Who can root for someone who preys on the elderly?

-30% karma’s a b*tch, isn’t it? Thankfully the ending is quite satisfactory when it comes to some justice.

-10% “hooray” for giving a Latina a non-stereotypical role. Eiza Gonzalez plays Fran, Marla’s partner in crime (literally). It’s about time we see Latinas not being cast as narcos, maids, or trophy wives!

-20% unexpected villain. Marla and Fran are not the only villains here. They happen to mess with the mother of a Russian mob, played by the one and only Peter Dinklage.
