Gloria Estefan Celebrates Her Roots with Raíces

Gloria Estefan is back in action with Raíces, her first Spanish-language album in almost 20 years. And she’s doing it her way, blending legacy, emotion, and community in a powerful celebration of Latin culture.
With five decades in music and countless global hits under her belt, Gloria Estefan has nothing left to prove. But she still has more to say, especially to her community.
“This album is a love letter to my community and to my roots, musical, cultural, and spiritual,” she shared in a heartfelt message.
“Raíces” is a full-circle moment. And Gloria didn’t make the announcement alone. To introduce the album’s 13 tracks, she brought together some of her closest friends and longtime admirers in a virtual celebration that felt like a true Latin music moment. A different celebrity revealed each song:

The lead single, also titled “Raíces,” mixes classic salsa with a fresh, modern twist, thanks to Emilio Estefan’s production, recorded at their iconic Crescent Moon studio in Miami. Gloria describes the track as a metaphor for life and love: “‘Raíces’ expresses how love and life are like planting: what you nurture with faith, patience, and dedication will ultimately bear fruit. Never miss the chance to plant kindness, because in every act of love, true abundance blossoms.
The second single, La Vecina, is another tribute, this time to that familiar neighborhood character who somehow knows everything that goes on. It’s a song full of rhythm and personality, written by Emilio and brought to life in a very personal way. Gloria directed the video herself, filming it at El Cuartelito, the apartment building where she and her mom lived after arriving from Cuba in 1960.

Amara La Negra stars in the video, which brings to life a 1960s Miami neighborhood with all its color, culture, and sense of community. “For me, filming in that neighborhood felt like going back in time,” Gloria said. “It was incredibly emotional and healing to reconnect with my roots in such a real way.” The video also marks the first time the entire Estefan family appears together on screen.
With Raíces set to drop on May 29, Gloria Estefan is celebrating 50 years in the music industry with a project that’s deeply personal and crafted to connect with people of all ages.
“With powerful songs about identity, love, and heritage,” she says, “this new production promises to be more than just an album.” In Gloria’s words: “Raíces is a movement.”
