George López on Supporting Young Comedians Like Ralph Barbosa: “You look out for yourself”

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest in Latino comedy, you’ll know who Dallas-native young comic, Ralph Barbosa, is. Known for HBO Max’s special Entre Nos: The Winners 3, Directed by Aida Rodriguez, the latino comedian sells out shows everywhere he goes and even has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
But one person who doesn’t know who he is, nor wants to talk about him, is George Lopez, who’s got a long-standing comedy career —as well as a long list of controversies— including having a record of not helping up-and-coming fellow Latino comedians.
“You look out for yourself,” was Lopez’s argument during a recent episode of his podcast “OMG Hi” with fellow comedian Steve Treviño, that’s got him under fire within the Latino comedy space.
During the podcast episode, Treviño is rooting for Barbosa and brings up his name a couple of times and details on his achievements.
“There’s this kid blowing up right now, Ralph Barbosa? And I’m like I’m praying for him. I don’t hate on him. I want that kid to have it easy, because we [*] had it hard,” says Treviño.
However, Lopez was not having it. George cuts him off saying: “[Never heard of him].”
“I don’t know who he is. Where is he from? But nobody knows who that motherf*cker is, why are you saying his name? Is it wrong for me to say that? [talks to others in the room] Why do you keep bringing his name up and nobody knows who he is?,” continues Lopez.
Steve: But you also wanna lookout for others.
Now, whether Ralph Barbosa gets George Lopez’s support or not, he seems to be doing what comedians do: continue the conversation on a funny note, as he shared on Instagram along his own take on the situation. Check it out!
