First Post-Pandemic Concert Just Happened

During quarantine, we sacrificed some of our biggest joys for the greater good. Thankfully, with more people being vaccinated, indoor dining and movie theaters have opened up. But what about concerts? Other states like Florida  have begun to host festivals such as AfroPunk festival, but what about California? After over a year with no music festivals in California, Global Citizen hosted Vax Live at the SoFi stadium with the Foo Fighters headlining and Latinx icons Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin performing. It was also hosted by the one and only Selena Gomez. Do not worry, this was a highly secure environment – all 20,000 attendees had to show proof of vaccination before being allowed entry into the stadium. Masks were required, temperature checks, rapid testing and contact tracing were all on deck as well.

Jennifer Lopez stole everyone’s heart by bringing out her mother to help her sing “Sweet Caroline,” which is a song that her mother would sing to her when she was a baby. She urged the importance of getting vaccinated so people can safely be reunited. J Balvin opened the event by performing some of his latest bangers like “Otra Nochi Sin Ti” and “Tu Veneno.” The prince of reggaeton even shared some wisdom: “Last year, I experienced my own personal battle with COVID-19, and I can only say it’s not something you would ever want to get. So, the simple answer is to get vaccinated for yourself and your loved ones.” 

Host Selena Gomez welcomed Prince Harry, Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, and more to talk about the importance of getting vaccinated. The all-star line-up of appearances wasn’t over yet, because President Joe Biden along with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Pope Francis made video appearances to tell people how crucial getting vaccinated is for everyone’s safety. Vax Live was filmed and will be available for broadcast worldwide on May 8th  through ABC, CBS, Fox, YouTube, and on iHeartMedia radio stations.
