Exclusive Interview with Six-Time Latin GRAMMY Nominee Elsa y Elmar

With the Latin Grammys approaching, we got to talk to a not one or two times, but six-time Latin Grammy nominee, Colombian sensation, Elsa y Elmar. The talented artist shared her views on her culture, music influence and new tracks. Check it out!
- How was Elsa y Elmar born?
In 2013, while in school, I decided to record my songs and publish them online. The project had to have a name, and ELSAMAR (My soundcloud username) was too boring. Playing it by ear and figuring it out on the way, that’s how Elsa y Elmar was born.
- How did your origins, being born in Bucaramanga, influence your music?
Bucaramanga is a small town, with not much to do. I spent my teen years in my room, on the internet, dreaming and thinking about music. I guess that feeling of being misunderstood gave me the need to find comfort in creativity. Also, Bucaramanga is a very tropical city, so from a very young age I have been a Bachata, Reggaeton and Merengue lover. I think that also gave me the spice to mix up genres.

- You’ve come a long way. What does it feel having six nominations for the Latina Grammys?
I feel thankful I have been able to make music nonstop for 10 years. It is truly a gift.
- Tell us about “Drogada de Emociones”?
This is one of my Favs songs on PALACIO. This is a fun song that talks about the roller coaster of emotions we experience when we are falling in love. Happiness, impulsiveness and vulnerability. This is a song that musically builds up, but it starts and ends in a place of vulnerability.

- How is being on tour and seeing people from different countries responding to your music?
It is a nurturing and exciting experience. I always end tours tired and needing rest, but when I go back on the road I reconnect with the awesome feeling of live music. I feel blessed to be able to travel and connect with other humans through the songs I write.
- What is the mantra you live by?
This too shall pass.
