European scouts turn their attention to more Mexico U20 stars, not just Gilberto Mora

The spotlight on Gilberto Mora is starting to expand. According to comments from Armando Martínez, president of Club Pachuca, at least two more Mexican U20 players are now being monitored by European clubs following their strong performances at the U20 World Cup in Chile.
In an interview covered by multiple Mexican outlets, Martínez confirmed that scouts from Europe have been tracking Elías Montiel and Alexéi Domínguez, both standout performers for Pachuca and part of the current Mexico U20 roster. “We’re proud of what these young players are doing. Their progress reflects the work we’ve done in the academy, and it’s natural that interest from abroad is increasing,” the Pachuca executive said.
Mexico’s U20 rise under the global radar
Mexico’s U20 team has been one of the most consistent surprises of the 2025 U20 World Cup, currently sitting among the tournament’s top eight. The squad advanced after a 4–1 win over host nation Chile, led by Hugo Camberos with a brace, and supported by goals from Tahiel Jiménez and Iker Fimbres.
While Gilberto Mora has captured headlines for his three goals and two assists in four matches, the consistent performances of Montiel and Domínguez have not gone unnoticed. Both players have been instrumental in Mexico’s midfield transitions and pressing game, showcasing maturity beyond their years.
According to reports, European clubs from Portugal and Spain have already initiated contact with Pachuca representatives. Though no official offers have been confirmed, insiders suggest that Pachuca values its academy players highly and will only negotiate under conditions that ensure long-term player development.
Pachuca’s academy continues to shine
Pachuca remains one of the most productive academies in Mexican football, known for producing talents such as Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, Erick Gutiérrez, and Luis Chávez. The club’s ongoing success at the youth level reinforces its status as a key contributor to Mexico’s future in international football.
As for the current U20 generation, Martínez made it clear that Pachuca’s focus is on continued growth rather than quick sales. “We want our players to grow in the right environment, whether here or abroad,” he said.
With Mora, Montiel, and Domínguez all gaining global visibility, Mexico’s next wave of football talent appears to be on the verge of breaking through to Europe — and Pachuca stands once again at the heart of that story.
