Eulalio “Sax” Cervantes of Maldita Vecindad Passes at 52

Legendary saxophonist Eulalio “Sax” Cervantes passed as a result of COVID-19 complications on Sunday, March 14th.
Cervantes established himself as a genre-defining artist with the group La Maldita Vecindad y Los Hijos del 5° Patio. Founded during the early ’80s in Mexico City, La Maldita became one of the most important groups in Latin Rock by combining genres such as ska, rock, punk, and created a sound that was uniquely Mexican. Sax’s indelible legacy can be heard in his one-of-a-kind instrumentals that he wrote for the group’s iconic mega-hits such as “Kumbala” y “Pachuco.”
Sax’s passing makes his March 5th solo “Otros Nosotros” his last release, and true to Sax’s legacy, it’s a mosh-pit-opening banger.
See the band’s post below with a statement from Cervantes’ wife Jessica Franco Landero and longtime producer Gustavo Santaolalla.
