Documentary Explores Emergence of L.A.’s Underground Hip Hop Culture

A compelling new documentary about the Los Angeles Hip-Hop culture at the turn of the 21st century, Where We’re From: Rise of L.A. Underground Hip Hop, will premiere in home theaters everywhere on demand as well as digitally on August 24 from Shout! Studios.
Where We’re From is an exploration of the emergence of L.A.’s “underground” Hip-Hop culture of the late 1990’s-early 2000’s, recounted firsthand by some of its architects – the creators of Club Elements. Every respected independent MC in the nation came through Club Elements. This documentary chronicles that vibrant time in Los Angeles’ underground Hip-Hop scene and shows a side of L.A.’s subculture that is responsible for an independent movement that spawned a slew of widely recognized and celebrated artists.
Produced and directed by DJ Bonds and DJ Breeze, two founders and producers of Club Elements, the film features archival performance footage from Club Elements and interviews with hip hop luminaries Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Hieroglyphics, The Beat Junkies, Planet Asia, Defari and more.
