Disney+’s Breakdown Puts Tini Stoessel Back on Screen After a Decade

Tini Stoessel Returns to Acting in Disney+ Thriller Breakdown

Disney+ has premiered Breakdown (Quebranto), the long-awaited dramatic thriller that marks the return of Argentine star Tini Stoessel to acting. Released on August 15 with all six episodes dropping simultaneously, the series immediately positioned itself as one of the platform’s most ambitious Latin American productions of the year.

For Tini, this project closes a circle. Before becoming a global pop icon, she began her career as an actress, starring in Disney Channel’s Violetta and appearing in Patito Feo and Soy Luna. Nearly a decade has passed since she left acting behind to focus on her music career. Now, with Breakdown, she makes an emotional return to the screen in a role that demands intensity, fragility, and strength in equal measure.

Tini Steps Into Mystery and Family Secrets in Breakdown

At the heart of the story is Miranda Sanguinetti (Stoessel), a young Argentine pianist adopted as a child who has always lived with an unfillable void: the mystery of her origins. Her recurring anxiety attacks, deeply tied to the unknowns about her past, push her to embark on a desperate journey to uncover the truth about her biological family. That search leads her back to Mexico, where a painful revelation awaits, one that will unravel everything she thought she knew about her identity.

In Mexico, Miranda crosses paths with Javier Lara (Jorge López – Élite and Soy Luna), the charismatic but conflicted son of Rafael Lara (Albi De Abreu) and nephew of Emiliano Lara (Antonio de la Vega). Having grown up in Chile away from his family’s empire, Javier returns carrying old wounds and ambitions, and his fate becomes entwined with Miranda’s investigation.

The Lara family, a dynasty of political and economic power, stands at the core of the mystery. The patriarch Santiago Lara (Otto Sirgo), though officially retired, still casts a long shadow over the family’s dealings. Emiliano, the brother who manages the empire, is a man of calculation and control, father to Victoria (Lucía Gómez-Robledo); sharp and strategic, trying to carve her place in a male-dominated environment; and Gerardo (Sebastián Silveti), impulsive and violent, desperate for paternal validation. Rafael, Javier’s father, has distanced himself from the family but cannot escape its gravitational pull.

Parallel to this web of power and betrayal, another figure emerges with profound emotional weight: Gabriela (Daniela Peña), Miranda’s biological mother. Coming from a vulnerable background in Mexico City, Gabriela’s life has been scarred by trauma and tragedy. Her reappearance brings Miranda closer to the painful truths she has been seeking,  and to choices that could change her forever.

Adding yet another layer to Miranda’s path is Leo (Martín Barba – Pacto de silencio and Yo Soy Franky), a former Mexican special forces operative hired to protect her. Stoic yet idealistic, Leo carries his own scars but quickly becomes a steadfast ally. His presence injects tension, loyalty, and tenderness into Miranda’s dangerous quest.

The six episodes, each running about 45 minutes, bring together a diverse cast from across Latin America, including Jyasú Torruco (Diego), Karla Garrido (Sara), Rebeca Manríquez (Elena), Areli González (Silvana), Daniela Vargas (María José), and Albi De Abreu as Rafael. The series was filmed primarily on location in Mexico, with key sequences shot in Argentina, enhancing the authenticity and emotional landscapes of the story.

Behind the camera, the series is directed by Bernardo de la Rosa and penned by writers Andrés Gelós, Natacha Caravia, and Andrés Pascaner. Produced by Non Stop México, Breakdown blends suspense, drama, and psychological tension, offering Tini Stoessel the opportunity to shine in one of the most challenging roles of her career.

With its mix of mystery, family intrigue, and emotional rawness, the series is not just Tini’s homecoming as an actress but also a showcase of Latin American talent in front of and behind the camera. Breakdown has already positioned itself as both a rediscovery of an artist and a milestone for Disney+’s regional productions.
