Copa Libertadores 2025 Semifinals: The Final Four is Set

The Copa Libertadores now has its four semifinalists after a thrilling quarterfinal phase filled with emotions, dramatic penalty shootouts, and strong title contenders. South America’s most prestigious tournament moves into its decisive stages with eyes set on the final on November 29 at the Estadio Monumental in Lima, Peru.

Flamengo Advances on Penalties to Face Racing

In La Plata, Flamengo survived a tough series against Estudiantes. The Fla triumphed in the penalty shootout thanks to Agustín Rossi, who stopped the decisive shots and became the hero. Thus, the Brazilians grabbed the last ticket to the semifinals, where they will face Racing Club, one of the big surprises of this edition.

La Academia made it to a Copa Libertadores semifinal for the first time in 28 years

After knocking Vélez Sarsfield out with a 2-0 aggregate score. They first won in Liniers with a goal from Maravilla Martínez and then Santiago Solari sealed the series in Avellaneda.

Gustavo Costas’ team arrives in great form and with total confidence: they qualified for this Libertadores as the champion of the Copa Sudamericana, led their group, and on the way eliminated four Brazilian clubs (Athletico Paranaense, Corinthians, Cruzeiro, and Botafogo), becoming a real “bogeyman” for the Brazilian rivals.

The match between Racing and Flamengo promises to be an exciting semifinal, with two different styles: the collective solidity of La Academia against the hierarchy and international experience of Mengão.

Palmeiras and Liga de Quito, the Battle on the Other Side of the Bracket

In the other semifinal, Palmeiras will face Liga de Quito. The Verdão reaffirmed their status as favorites by dispatching River Plate with a convincing 5-2 aggregate. They stand out as the natural contenders due to recent history, squad, and the leadership of Abel Ferreira.

Abel Ferreira’s team, the only one with a perfect score in the group phase, had already steamrolled in the round of sixteen (4-0 aggregate against Universitario of Peru) and in the quarterfinals showcased all their offensive power with victories at the Monumental and Allianz Parque. With forwards in top form and a coach who knows these stages inside out, Palmeiras emerges as one of the big title contenders.

Their opponent will be Liga de Quito, who proved the impact of altitude in the first leg against Sao Paulo (2-0) and then defended and struck in Morumbi to win 1-0 and seal their berth. The Ecuadorians, with figures like Jeison Medina and Bryan Ramírez, aim to repeat past glories and once again place their name in the big history of the Libertadores.

Semifinal Schedule

First Leg: October 22, 2025
Second Leg: October 29, 2025

The two finalists will be determined at the end of October and will then travel to Lima to play the continent’s most anticipated match on November 29.

With top-level semifinals and four teams with different stories and styles, the 2025 Libertadores promises an unforgettable finish.
