Meet the Cast of Netflix’s Bold New Mexican Series Las Muertas

One thing that stands out in Mexican entertainment is our ability to laugh, with dark comedy and satire, even at our deepest tragedies. That’s exactly the hallmark of Luis Estrada, director of films like El Infierno (2010) and The Perfect Dictatorship (2014), who is now making his series debut with Las Muertas, an original Netflix production that promises to be a game-changer in Mexican fiction.

Inspired by the 1977 novel of the same name by Jorge Ibargüengoitia, which in turn was based on the chilling true story of “Las Poquianchis,” the series narrates the rise and fall of the Baladro sisters, Arcángela and Serafina, who in the 60s turned a network of brothels into a horror empire. A story so grotesque and brutal that it could only be told through Estrada’s satirical lens.
The production offers a social portrait that mixes the tragic with the ironic, and also features a top-notch cast.
