Canelo Invited the Aguilars to Perform the National Anthem

Canelo Alvarez entrance music singer to fight Joe Saunders last May was pretty special, Mexican singer Angela Aguilar sang the Mexican National Anthem, known as the “Himno Nacional de Mexico” at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The seventeen year old singer stunned the audience with her powerful voice as well as with her unique black cape sewn with red and white roses. After her solo performance, she joined her father Pepe Aguilar and brother Leonardo. Pepe and Leonardo wore a Mariachi charro holding on to their Mariachi sombreros.
Canelo invited the Aguilar trio to perform during his grand entrance, accompanied by a female mariachi group and female baile folklorico dancers; and the craziest part is, they weren’t even paid to perform! Canelo appeared on stage while the Aguilar trio was singing a cover of the Vicente Fernandez song, “El Rey.” Throughout the performance, the audience was waving their Mexican flags. Canelo was pumped – throwing punches in the air – and began walking down to enter the ring with Saunders. Soon after, Pepe shared a photo with his children with the caption,
“1,000,000 of #THANKYOU to the GREAT MEXICAN CHAMPION our dear friend Canelo for the invitation!!!”
This is not the first time Angela Aguilar has performed the Mexican National Anthem for a Canelo fight. Although many applauded her solo performance, others criticized her. On Sunday, Pepe went live on Instagram to speak about the criticism she received on social media. He clarified that Angela sang the Mexican National Anthem slower than how it is normally sung. He also shared with the public that the reason she sang slower was because there were technical difficulties with the earpiece she was wearing. He stated, “we are human, we are going to make mistakes.”
The family was honored to perform for Canelo. Angela is a star in the making, and it all begin with her grandparents Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre; both famous Mexican singers. Angela and Leonardo are keeping their family’s musical legacy alive to this day. There is nothing more special than having their father help them navigate through the music industry and help his children create a professional singing career of their own. Pepe will return on stage with Angela and Leonardo for their new, “Jaripeo Sin Frontera” tour beginning on September 4th, 2021.
