Canelo Alvarez Retains Title in Dominating Fashion

Canelo Alvarez squared off against Jermell Charlo this past weekend, defending his super middleweight title.
The two men fought in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the T-Mobile Arena. It was the first time the two met inside the ring.
Mexican superstar Álvarez came into the fight with a 59-2-2 record in his professional career. With 39 victories by knockout and 21 by decision. His only two losses came against Floyd Mayweather Jr back in 2013 and against Dmitry Bivol back in May of 2022.
Charlo is an amazing fighter himself, with a career record of 35-2-1 before the fight on Saturday. Nineteen of the wins came from a knockout and 16 by decision. His last defeat happened way back in 2018 when he lost to Tony Harrison.
The fight with too many fans was not viewed as enjoyable, as there was no electrifying knockout. The two fighters paced themselves all night and made it a tight match. The only knockdown came in the seventh round when Canelo knocked down Charlo. This was a rare occurrence, as Charlo had only been knocked down once prior.
The fighters went the full length of 12 rounds, leaving the decision up to the judges.
The stats of the end of the night were:
Alvarez, with 134 punches, landed out of 385 thrown giving him a 30 % accuracy score. Charlo landed 71 out of his 398 punches for an accuracy of 18%.
Canelo won the fight via unanimous decision. With a score of 118-109 from a pair of judges and the other giving the champion 119-108
Canelo improved to 60-2-2, and Charlo’s record is now 35-2-1.
Canelo continues his decorated career. He has over 60 fights under his belt and has no signs of stopping at the age of 33. Alvarez is cementing himself as one of the greatest Mexican fighters ever.
